The Story of 1

Thursday, 01 January 2009

Here’s a video about the history of number, in particular the numbers 0 and 1.  Our Year 7 program begins the year looking at ancient number systems, so this video will fit in nicely.

For Australian visitors, The Story of 1 aired on ABC1, 8:30pm 1st January 2009.  On the ABC’s site you will find a good synopsis of the documentary.  On contacting the ABC Shop Online: “Unfortunately, this item is not available through the ABC at present with no plans for release in the schedule of titles coming soon.”.  However…

It’s available to watch online at Google Video.

There are services like keepvid will allow you to grab a copy of this video in FLV format.  Other services like youconvertit also handle the conversion to a format viewable on your computer.

I couldn’t find an Australia DVD copy, although it is available on:
Amazon.com
Note a DVD purchased from Amazon.com will be Region 1 and may not work on a DVD player in Australia.

*NB: The links to Amazon.com in this post, include an affiliate code which may earn me a commission if the product is purchased.
