Here’s a quick starter activity for rounding.
Show this slide (or write the numbers on the board).

Ten questions to ask… for these questions, the answers are “possible answers” (discussion point):
- Which number has been rounded to the nearest hundred? (12300, 400, 25000)
- Which number has been rounded to 1 decimal place? (0.7, 9.9)
- Which number has been rounded to the nearest thousand? (25000)
- Which number has been rounded to 2 decimal places? (1.32, 0.80)
- If counting by hundreds, the number after the green number would be. (12400)
- Which number has 4 decimal places? (17.1345)
- In the blue number, which digit is in the tenths place value? (7)
- Round the pink number to the nearest hundredth. (17.13)
- Which number rounded to the nearest unit would equal 10? (9.9)
- Which numbers rounded to the nearest unit would equal 1? (1.32, 0.80, 0.7)
